When I was still young, I asked all kinds of information, some said that the smaller the better, some said that after one year old, after two years old, and then the pros and cons of sterilization, some said yes and some said no, the more I saw, the more tangled I became, so sterilization was delayed. Three scheduled operations were delayed for various reasons. Finally, the operation was finally performed during the National Day holiday on the 11th last year (2017). After the operation, I regretted not doing it earlier.

I believe many parents have consulted a lot of information. my unified advice here is that bitches are best sterilized, because the probability of uterine pus is very high. to put it bluntly, they will have to be stabbed sooner or later. don't believe that the incidence rate of giving birth to a child will be lower. there is no scientific basis. as for male dogs, if you can control them well, you will not be irritable, fight with other male dogs, eat, drink and sleep, if a bitch in estrus can call back, then she can not do it, except cryptorchidism, which must be done before she is two years old, otherwise she is prone to testicular cancer.

Preoperative preparation

1: Choose a good hospital, choose a good hospital, choose a good hospital!!! Choose a good hospital to make an appointment for the operation time in advance, and it is best to have free time to accompany Mao children at home for a day or two for the operation, because the wound will hurt in the first two days, you may not be able to relieve the pain on it, but it is definitely different with you around (sterilization is only a minor operation but also an operation, which is equivalent to giving Mao children's life to them, so it is very important for a good hospital to have reliable doctors, the important thing is to say three times, you can compare goods with goods, and use various network platforms to make friends to understand the quality and history of some nearby hospitals.)

2: fasting for 12 hours and water deprivation for 8 hours before operation (the reason for fasting and water deprivation is to prevent vomiting from blocking the respiratory tract, because vomiting, slow intestinal peristalsis, gas accumulation in the intestinal cavity, etc. will occur when the digestive system is stimulated during anesthesia)

3: prepare Elizabeth mask and nutrition cream, prepare blankets in places with relatively low temperature (the temperature in Guangzhou was 35 degrees when Maya performed the operation, so there was no need for blankets, bitches needed surgical clothes, and they could bring their own or buy them from pet hospitals)

4: take a bath. since the wound cannot touch water one week after the operation, it is better to take a bath before sterilization.

Operation in progress

On the 1st, I woke up naturally in the afternoon and contacted the doctor to take Maya there. I urinated downstairs and pooped. I was quite excited in the car. I was even more excited when I got to the hospital. I barked at a group of dogs in cages (silver fox is all this smelly virtue and can't help it). The doctor said that he would not be able to jump up later.

we didn't do the preoperative examination. this doctor has a good reputation in our local area and often goes to the police dog team for visits. he is dr bi, who helped in September above. many of our dog sterilization operations were done at dr bi's. the dogs I rescued were also taken back from the ghost gate by dr bi.

we used acupuncture anesthesia. dr bi gave us two injections, one for anesthesia. I don't know what it was. Maya 123, who was still valiant, fell down, and then carried it in to start the operation. to be honest, my heart was still tight and worried at that time. then... The operation was over in less than five minutes. Dr. Bi showed me his balls. I was surprised. "So fast?" "This is a small operation..."

postoperative observation

It was really very fast that the operation was over, so Maya was carried out. On that day, due to the pet of many people, Maya was reduced to a pad and went underground waiting for the anesthetic to wake up (Guangzhou's 35-degree high temperature is not cold, don't worry...) Dr. Bi said he would wake up completely in about two hours. When I first held it out, I didn't realize it at all. My tongue fell outside like the one on the Internet. After about half an hour, I began to whisper and express very painful. After an hour or so, I began to stretch my tongue and whisper and struggle to get up. Looking at his shaking head and whining, I was so distressed that my heart was breaking. I held it in my arms to comfort me. It refused and had to get up and wanted to go home, I was afraid of getting its wound. I didn't dare to do anything about it. It had to get up and walk. It couldn't stand still and rolled straight. Okay, it was bleeding from the wound (the amount of bleeding during the operation is very small, so there is no need to worry). Other patients thought it had some terminal illness. I took a sip of water and turned around to see its mouth full of blood. I was scared for minutes. What happened to Maya? "Why vomiting blood? Hit the insides? Anesthesia allergy? You're not going to die, are you?" after a big play in my mind, I began to shout to the doctor, "Why is his mouth full of blood?" they examined it carefully and it turned out that they bit their own tongue and caused bleeding... "This is the first time I have seen a dog biting its tongue in so many years." I... (This paragraph is a completely wrong demonstration, because the dog who loves himself wants to be with him, so he puts him by his side and holds him. As a result, the dog's anesthetic starts to "walk" around and bite his tongue. Parents still put the dog in the rest room or cage and wait for the anesthetic to be completely awake before holding it out.) After the anesthetic is fully awake and told the doctor, he can go home to recuperate (some hospitals will require hospitalization)

Postoperative care and precautions

On the day of Maya's operation, she hid under the bed and did not come out. She quietly lay down in the corner and asked her to raise her eyelids to look at you. She seemed to say, "I'm so painful that I don't want to talk to you." she might not eat or drink two days ago. the problem is not big. she can mainly drink some water or yogurt, and then spray alcohol on the wound several times a day. On the second day of the operation, I coaxed myself to drink yogurt and ate some duck jerky and nutritional cream (sterilization in summer should avoid wound inflammation, so the hair must not be fed, so the duck jerky I chose) scrotum was swollen more than the first day, and normally it would be swollen for a week, because the second day of the operation we went to in the afternoon was more painful than the first day, and there was some anesthetic effect on the first day.

the mental state is better on the fifth day. I will scamper in bed from time to time. I will hide under the bed more often. when spraying disinfectant at night, I will have pus in inflamed scrotum.

took it to the hospital on the afternoon of the sixth day. the doctor said it was nothing, but it was too hot and covered with fur. Then remove the line by the way. In the evening, I grabbed and simply shaved the hair on my back heel...

The seventh day was like nothing happened, and I felt that my appetite became bigger and more clingy. What if his appetite becomes bigger? I'm worried that he will get fat and dare not feed more. Therefore, after sterilization, it is best not to make up for the dog's suffering. It is difficult to lose weight when you get fat. Amitabha, bless Maya not to be fat.

during this period, we took a stroll out to the toilet every day. when we were ill, we were still clean dogs who did not defecate at home. the time was controlled within half an hour. after basically solving the physiological problems, we went home and were very happy to go out.

Scrotal recovery

On the third day of the operation, there may be congestion around the chicken and scrotum. It is normal and need not worry too much.

On the fifth day of surgery, pus was evident on the incision and right side. On the sixth day, I took it to the hospital to see a doctor and said it was okay. I covered it, the thread was removed, and I grabbed and shaved my hair at night. Therefore, long-haired dogs must pay attention to shaving off the hair around the balls and the buttocks of the hind legs, so as not to cover the wound with too long hair!!!

On the ninth day, the recovery was very good, the scrotum slowly became smaller, and a little scab did not fall off. On the tenth day, I took a bath.

Generally speaking, male dog sterilization is a very simple operation, as long as you choose a good hospital, you can completely put your heart in your stomach, and pay attention to avoid the mistakes I made (put the dog beside you and wait for anesthesia to wake up, causing the dog to move and bite the tongue after half waking up, and the hair is not completely shaved to cover the wound and pus). Don't make these two mistakes! In addition, many people want to wash their teeth by the way when the dog is anesthetized, so that they can have one less general anesthesia. I was very impatient at that time and didn't think of it at all. I regretted not doing it together afterwards, but recently I learned that it seems that it can't be done together, because sterilization requires a sterile environment. I don't know much about this and can consult a local doctor.

About anesthesia, at present, respiratory anesthesia is better and safer, and there is no need to worry too much about anesthetic allergy. In fact, the probability of anesthetic allergy is very low. The mortality rate of healthy dogs is 0.05, that of healthy cats is 0.1, and that of sick cats and dogs is 1.3... In other words, if the doctor tells you that cats and dogs are allergic to anesthesia, you can tear them apart, many claim that most of the deaths due to anesthesia allergy are caused by the lack of blood pressure monitoring during the operation, and the discovery and rescue of hypotension are not timely. The argument of anesthesia allergy is mostly used to deceive people. Therefore, everyone chooses a hospital to operate on cats and dogs. Please be sure to ask if there is any intraoperative blood pressure and heart monitoring. (The explanation of anesthetic allergy comes from the Internet. I forgot where I saw it, and deleted it.)

I always thought sterilization was a one-size-fits-all cut (the whole scrotum and eggs). Later, I realized that only after taking out the eggs, the scrotum would slowly retract and disappear (I thought the chicken would be beaten, haha) Maya could not see any trace at all in about three months.

Regarding weight gain, Maya has been sterilized for more than a year so far, and has gained about 1.00kg. Within the scope of acceptance, remember two points to control food intake and exercise food intake. Maya was 8.50kg before sterilization, and gained 0.50kg 9.00kg three months after sterilization. At the end of the year, her family gave her a meal to make up for all kinds of sheep's hoof, donkey, egg, pig, fan bone, chicken liver and fat 0.50kg 9.50kg. At present, this is 9.60kg the case, which means that we have maintained this weight for one year, dog food is 1/4 less than before sterilization, and the amount of exercise is still the same as before. Therefore, parents of hairy children who get fat like balloons after sterilization should first find out the reason from themselves. Don't push the pot to sterilization. After sterilization, they are easy to get fat. Yes, but they can be controlled!!
