If you are bitten by a dog, how to deal with the wound? Do you need to fight rabies?

Since the grizzly bear entered the tooth replacement period (5 months), she has been somewhat unable to control herself. The rate of damage and renewal of toys (especially knotted rope toys) has risen sharply. Not only that, in daily care (combing her hair), the probability of injury has risen sharply. So how to deal with being bitten or even bleeding by a grizzly bear? Share my experience briefly.

Theoretical knowledge

Conditions for human infection with rabies

First of all, it should be clear that not all dog bites are likely to be infected with rabies, but about three days before and three days after the onset of rabies. Mad dogs whose saliva has begun to detoxify have a 30% to 70% chance of being infected. That is to say, bites and scratches are not the only conditions for rabies infection. Only dogs carrying rabies and in the stage of onset can be infected with rabies.

WHO International Code

A more scientific method of judgment is provided by the World Health Organization. When you are bitten by a dog with abnormal behavior and bleeding, inject the first shot of rabies vaccine; then observe the dog that bites you. If it is fine within ten days, the next vaccine does not need to be injected. This is the international guideline of WHO.

Wound treatment

Wound treatment time

Whether you decide to inject rabies vaccine or not, you must race against time to prepare and treat the wound; because the dog's mouth is very dirty, he doesn't brush his teeth every day, and he often eats dirty things when people are not looking% > _

Wash the wound

Rinse the wound quickly: every minute counts. Rinse the rabies virus on the wound or the bacteria in the mouth as quickly as possible. Because after a long time, the virus will enter human tissues, invade the central nervous system along the nerve, and kill people. The second is to be thorough: because the wound of grizzly bear bite is small outside (her mouth is very small and her teeth are very small) and deep inside, this requires that when washing, the wound should be enlarged as much as possible, so that it can be fully exposed, and the soft tissue around the wound should be squeezed, and the amount of water used to wash should be large, and the flow of water should be rapid, preferably in front of the tap water; the washing time must be more than 30 minutes. Of course, it is also said to wash with saline or 20% soapy water. I use tap water directly to wash with saline or 20% soapy water in the last few minutes.

After rinsing, dry it with a clean towel. I use a soft cotton towel, which is a disposable towel, which is cleaner and more convenient.

Alcohol disinfection

After washing and bleeding the wound, the wound should be disinfected in time. I use this configuration of wound disinfectant + alcohol. When disinfecting, the burning wound should be washed repeatedly, so as not to be too painful.

Apply iodophor

Finally, apply iodophor, because rabies virus reproduces in an anaerobic state, so the wound can not be bandaged within 24 hours, apply iodophor for 30-45 seconds, and then wipe the wound to prevent secondary infection.

About Rabies Vaccine Injection

This is divided for 2 kinds of circumstances, one kind is the animal bite that is infected by doubtful rabies virus, because fight with each other between the animal, play bite, can infect rabies virus each other, old friend can infect rabies likewise after the person is bitten, accordingly, for the sake of insurance, every is bitten by doubtful (do not understand) dog, want to press rabies to bite processing, inject rabies vaccine in time. During the vaccination period, do not drink alcohol, strong tea or coffee; do not eat stimulating food, such as chili, onion, garlic, etc.; and avoid catching cold, strenuous exercise or excessive fatigue to prevent colds.

The other is being bitten by a domestic dog that I know very well, which is the case with me. The grizzly bear was not infected with rabies, and she was injected with osteogenic rabies vaccine when she was 3 months old. Most importantly, her abnormal behavior of biting me was caused by carelessness during the period of tooth replacement (combing, blowing, etc.). After registering at the hospital, the doctor let me go back, and the pet doctor also said that I had nothing to do (the original words were that I was a little fussy). By the way, the pet doctor told me that domestic dogs are generally no problem, especially grizzly bears, which are vaccinated against rabies once a year, but have a certain chance of carrying rabies virus, not causing direct infection. So as long as they are not the kind of people who play outside all day with wild dogs of unknown origin, and do not show active aggression to the shoveling officer, they can rest assured that they are healthy.

It has been more than a month since I was first bitten by a grizzly bear. Indeed, as the doctor said, there is nothing wrong with me. (I had planned to get a rabies vaccine and then observe it for 10 days, but I was refused.) It proves that it is necessary to treat the wound in time.

Tip: How to deal with the situation without bleeding

Before (before the tooth replacement period), I was bitten by a grizzly bear unconsciously when I was pulling the game. But at that time, it was only red and swollen without bleeding. It was still necessary to follow the steps of washing (5 minutes), disinfection and iodophor. An additional step was needed. I personally felt that a very useful trick was to spray Yunnan Baiyao. The ability of detumescence and removing blood stasis is not covered. Deal with the scars and make sure that there is no bleeding. Spray Yunnan Baiyao on the mouth, and you can't see it the next day.
