Dogs are more prone to heat stroke than people.

Sweat glands are found only in the pads of the dog's paws and are few and undeveloped. We all know that humans use sweat glands to send fluid to cool down, but the sweat glands on the dog's meat pad are very difficult to cool down through sweating when the dog's body is very hot. Dogs are very afraid of heat, so dogs are more likely to suffer from heatstroke than people in summer.

Heatstroke prediction and emergency measures

1. Symptoms of mild heatstroke: drooling, panting and restlessness. First aid measures: remove the collar and chest belt used to restrain the dog. Reduce the ambient temperature, supplement drinking water, but do not drink a lot of water quickly, if possible, dogs can lick ice cubes.

2. Symptoms of moderate heatstroke: expiratory dyspnoea and stagnation. First aid measures: wet the whole body of the pet with ice water, or half soak it in water, do not use all ice water when soaking, use tap water at room temperature. After the symptoms were relieved, he was sent to the hospital.

3. Symptoms of severe heatstroke: shock and coma. First aid measures: Wet the whole body with ice water or wrap the whole body with an ice towel, or wipe the body surface with alcohol to cool down, especially the hairless part of the abdomen (the most commonly used method in hospitals), or pour cold water from the anus into the rectum, and then immediately send it to the hospital for treatment. Keep your pet's head down and neck straight, keep the airway open and prevent vomiting on the way to the hospital.

The northern summer came in a hurry, and the sudden rise in temperature caused the grizzly bear to suffer from mild heatstroke.

Daily response measures

Provide cooling equipment

When the grizzly bear gasps for breath, quickly take her to the place of fan and air conditioning. In summer, in order to better prevent mosquitoes and cool down, we followed the advice of the pet beauty shop and prepared a space for the grizzly bear to go in and out at any time. Because the grizzly bear was in the physiological period, there was no way to cool her directly with an ice pad. We could only match her with a small fan beside the mat, which could cool her more quickly.

Outdoor activities change

In the summer, the original plan of going out for a walk more than three times a day has become 1-2 times in the morning and evening. At about 4 o'clock in the morning, Mommy will take the grizzly bear for a walk outside for about half an hour. At night, after 6:30, it will be a 2-hour walk. The grizzly bear doesn't want to go home this time in the evening. At the same time, at least two water and grain cups are used alternately for each trip, and one water and grain cup can no longer meet the needs of grizzly bears for outdoor activities in summer.

Although this drinking cup is very small, it does not wet the mouth hair, especially suitable for dogs with long mouth hair such as poodles.

Indoor swimming problem

Compared with the usual vigorous exercise such as throwing Frisbee or picking up balls, swimming in the water in summer is a good choice, which not only ensures the amount of exercise, but also soaks in cool water, and is also good for the dog's hip joint. Homemade dog popsicle

In order to prevent the grizzly bear from suffering from emergency heatstroke, I specially prepared a special popsicle for her dog, frozen in the ice tray, one piece at a time is very convenient. Because grizzly bears have a bad stomach, it's better to eat less. A special reminder is that people eat popsicles, ice cream and so on. If you want to feed dogs, please look at the ingredients first. If the sugar content is too high, you can't eat chocolate. Watermelon and other fruits can be eaten in moderation, but watermelon juice can't be drunk because of too much sugar, as well as other fruits.

But I still recommend homemade. If homemade, the mellow goat's milk ice cream powder should be broken by me. My family has 6 cans.

About summer grooming

In summer, it can be properly shaved short, but it can not be shaved. Because dogs lose their outer protection when they are shaved, the skin of dogs with strong ultraviolet rays in summer will be more damaged by ultraviolet rays. Therefore, it is recommended to shave 2 to 4 weeks before the arrival of high temperature. I pinched the time, thinking that she was about to enter the menstrual period at the age of 8 months, just as she was about to enter the hot summer, so I took her to overhaul her hair. It's a short cut. It turns out that the dog's hair grows very fast. Now about two weeks later, the grizzly bear's hair is just the right length.

Medication

If the dog's heatstroke is really serious and has entered the stage of moderate or severe heatstroke, it is also necessary to prepare emergency medicine for the dog's heatstroke while rushing to the hospital. My own backup is this one, but to be honest, I haven't used it for Grizzlies yet (because Grizzlies always suffer from mild heatstroke).
