Dog Likes Lawn, Watch Out for Ticks!

At the turn of spring and summer, when the weather is suitable, dogs like to go out to the grass or lawn, roll and play. At this time, ticks also come out to make trouble. They hide in the grass and then crawl on the dog. What is the harm of ticks? What should I do if I find that my dog is parasitized by ticks?

What is a tick?

Ticks are mostly oval, flat on the abdomen and back when not sucking blood, like the size of a Mung Bean, swollen like a red bean after sucking blood, and extremely fond of animals with dense fur, such as cute dogs.

Ticks are harmful

Ticks multiply in dogs and can even infect shovellers. These ticks can not only feed on blood, but also transmit viruses. When dogs are infected with more ticks, it will seriously affect their health. When a dog has anemia and fever, it is infected with Babesia, which is transmitted by ticks.

What to do with it

Apply alcohol to the tick. After a few minutes, the head of the tick relaxes or dies. Remove the tick with pointed tweezers. This method is quick and effective, but improper operation of the shoveling officer will leave the tick mouthparts in the dog's skin. It is recommended to take the dog to the animal hospital for professional treatment.

2. Use topical tick repellent to spray or drop on the skin of the back of the dog's neck. The tick's mouthparts loosen and atrophy, and gradually die. This method is highly operable, but it requires the shoveling officer to wait patiently and carefully disinfect the dog's skin to avoid skin inflammation.

Ticks generally attach to the dog's skin to absorb blood, so removing ticks requires careful care. If forcibly removed, it is likely to leave the tick's limbs or mouthparts in the dog's skin, leading to skin infection, swelling, or even ulceration.

Prevention is the most important

1. Avoid dogs staying in grasslands, woods, etc. When traveling

outdoors, wear protective suit for dogs and cover the body surface in a large area.

3. Regularly use external tick repellent for dogs, and increase the frequency of use of tick repellent in tick-prone areas (such as Nanjing).
