Dogs are more prone to heat stroke than people.

Dogs are far more likely to suffer from heatstroke, because they only have the tip of their nose and the soles of their four feet to sweat. The only effective way for them to cool down is to pant quickly and remove the heat from the body through the evaporation of the respiratory tract.

Short-headed, short-nosed breeds (such as bullfighting), long-haired breeds and obese dogs are also more prone to heat stroke, experts warn.

What are the hazards of heatstroke?

Heatstroke dogs pant rapidly, drool, vomit, become weak and even retarded, and do not know how to respond to their owner's calls. When the body temperature rises to 40.5 to 41 degrees Celsius, it will cause permanent organ damage. When the body temperature rises to 42.8 ℃, the internal organs will be directly and rapidly damaged by heat.

How to prevent dogs from heatstroke?

Since heatstroke is so harmful to dogs, parents must be prepared in advance to prevent dogs from heatstroke.

In hot summer, parents should open windows to ventilate and ensure that pets stay in a cool and ventilated environment. Remember not to leave your dog alone in a closed car.

Provide your dog with plenty of water.

3. Parents should avoid exercising under high temperature conditions. Excessive temperature will cause the ground to be too hot, which will scald the dog's feet. Parents can take the dog for a walk in the early morning.

In hot weather, parents can change the dog's wet food or canned food, which can help the dog absorb too much water.

Once the first aid time for heatstroke is short morbidity, parents must not ignore the following signs of heatstroke in dogs and respond in time:

Dogs breathe excessively and sometimes make the associated screeching noises.

The dog has a rapid heartbeat and sweats a lot on the soles of his feet. The

dog feels hotter than usual, and the rectal temperature reaches 40 C-43.3 C.

Your dog's tongue and gums are bright red or black and extremely dry.

The dog's saliva is thick and may cause vomiting or bloody diarrhea.

Dog goes into shock, turning his lips and mucous membranes gray.

How to give first aid to dogs suffering from heatstroke?

If you suspect that your dog is suffering from heatstroke, parents should first calm down, carry out first aid measures calmly, and rescue the dog according to the following measures:

1. Put the dog in a cool and ventilated place. Lower your dog's body temperature

with water at room temperature. Wipe the dog's feet and head

with a wet towel, and apply an ice pack to the dog's groin area.

Avoid lowering the body temperature too low. Send to the hospital

as soon as possible.
